NEXT STEPS

1.) COLLECT INSPIRATION

Before we get started, go ahead and start collecting inspiration for your project.

Some of the best places to start gathering images is, of course, Pinterest and Instagram, but don’t be afraid to venture out to other sources.

I love blogs such as Honestly WTF, Pattern Curator, and Colour Crush by Love Print Studio. You may also search inspiring retailers such as Anthropologie, Lucy & Yak, or where ever you love to shop!

I recommend gathering images from a variety of different artists. Choose one thing you admire from each different artist. From one, you may love their use of color. From another, you love how they organize a composition, and from another, you adore their brushwork and mark making.

It’s important not to copy one artist’s style, but to pin impressions of artistic elements from a variety of styles and play with blending different details.

2.) COLLECT REFERENCE PHOTOS

If it’s too difficult to work from life, I recommend either using your own photographs or gathering reference photos from a royalty free website like Pexels.

Start planning out small goals for your project. Get those creative juices brewing and I’ll be in your inbox soon!
